Eggs Are a Great Source of Nutrients
Not only does a single large egg contain six grams of high-quality protein, but it is also chock-full of amino acids, unique antioxidants, and other vitamins and minerals that are essential to our health. Often called “nature’s multivitamin,” eggs are also rich in nutrients, like betaine and choline, that promote heart health.
The Egg Industry Plays a Vital Role in Our Economy
Did you know that the egg industry ranks 7th in North Carolina’s commodity receipts? This makes egg production an essential segment of agriculture and our economy in North Carolina. Our egg farmers are located all over the state, from Hyde County to Cherokee County, and their farms collectively produce nearly 7 ½ million eggs per day! Meet some of our egg farmers here.
Eggs Are Versatile
Eggs are a staple ingredient in many recipes! They can be scrambled, whipped, basted, baked, poached, boiled, and fried. Because of this versatility, as well as the affordability and accessibility of eggs, nearly every culture across the globe consumes this humble food staple.
