One in seven North Carolinians struggle with hunger, including one in five children. Hunger Action Month in September shines a spotlight on food insecurity, and North Carolina’s egg farmers are helping feed those in need. By donating wholesome, protein-packed eggs both in September and year-round, they’re ensuring families in their local communities have access to nutritious food.
Eggs are rich in protein, vitamins and minerals, and are one of the most versatile foods available. That is why North Carolina farmers are committed to ensuring everyone has access to healthy eggs by regularly donating to local food banks, schools, churches and community organizations across the state, including, but not limited to, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in Charlotte, MANNA Foodbank in Asheville, A Touch of the Father’s Love Ministry & Food Pantry in Nashville and nationwide non-profit HATCH For Hunger.
As of August 2025, North Carolina egg farmers have donated more than 6.3 million eggs so far this year, which is equivalent to 532,375 dozen. More donations are already scheduled, too!
The reality of food insecurity underscores the importance of these donation efforts. According to Feeding America, more than 47 million people in the U.S. face food insecurities. Closer to home, more than 1.6 million North Carolina residents are food insecure. Providing access to nutrient-rich foods, such as eggs, helps bridge nutrient gaps and makes a meaningful difference in people’s daily health and well-being.
Together, North Carolina’s egg farmers produce more than 7.5 million high-quality eggs each day, and they extend their responsibility as food providers beyond the farm. Through both in-kind donations and financial support, farmers regularly contribute to hunger relief efforts by schools, non-profits, churches and other civic organizations that support growing communities.
At the heart of these efforts is pride in producing a safe, high-quality protein and in serving communities across North Carolina. This Hunger Action Month, and throughout the year, North Carolina egg farmers are proud to support hunger relief causes and organizations to emphasize the power of collective action toward a shared goal.
