Making Faces with Kids in the Kitchen
For more than 20 years, the Incredible Edible Egg has brought kids into the kitchen.

May is National Egg Month, and with the school year winding down and summer around the corner, it’s an important time for your family to make memories that will last a lifetime. So, why not spend meal-prep time together having fun in the kitchen while making nutritious food choices?

Since 1993, the Incredible Edible Egg has created kid-friendly recipes to help eggucate the next generation. Before starting, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, and read through the directions and assemble all the ingredients and utensils that you will need.

Once you’re ready to cook, kids should keep these three keys in mind:

 

  1. Keep all perishable foods, such as eggs, in the refrigerator when you’re not cooking or eating them.
  2. Ask an adult to remove hot pans from the stove, oven or microwave. Always keep
    potholders handy.
  3. Be sure to clean up after you have finished. Promptly refrigerate any leftovers.

 

With these tips in mind and only 15 minutes, you can morph a typical egg salad sandwich from boring to incredible with the Incredible Edible Egg’s help. Here are the ingredients you need:

7 hard-boiled large eggs, divided

¼ cup reduced calorie mayonnaise

2 teaspoons yellow mustard

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

4 slices wheat bread, toasted

4 slices 96% fat-free ham

4 slices cheese, optional

Face features: olives, carrots, green or red peppers, grapes tomatoes, etc.
And here’s How: Coarsely CHOP 6 of the hard-boiled eggs. Lightly MIX chopped eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. PLACE 1 ham slice on each slice of bread. If using cheese, PLACE 1 cheese slice over ham. TOP with egg mixture. SLICE remaining hard-boiled egg. USE 2 egg slices for eyes on each piece of bread. MAKE a face using additional vegetable pieces.

This recipe is an excellent source of protein, vitamin D and choline; and a good source of folate and iron.

Eggs are part of a nutritious diet and contain high–quality protein and varying amounts of 13 essential vitamins and minerals for 70 calories each.
